A new report from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI), Social housing as infrastructure: an investment pathway, highlights the urgent need for government and private investment in social housing infrastructure across Australia.
Over the next 20 years, it is estimated that Australia will need to build over 727,000 new social housing dwellings to address the current backlog of housing as well as to meet future needs. Tasmania’s total estimated social housing need is calculated as approximately 14,000 dwellings.
