Shelter Tas has called publicly for the relief of Tasmania’s public housing debt for many years. While community and media attention is focused on the homelessness crisis, we have an opportunity to turn the conversation into action.

We urgently need more resources put into safe long-term affordable housing. Yet at the same time Tasmania has a legacy debt of $157M that sees half Tasmania’s annual grant of $30M for housing and homelessness swallowed up each year in debt repayments.
