About Homelessness Week?

Homelessness Week is a national event, with events held across Australia during the first full week in August.

Homelessness Week will be held from Monday 3rd – Sunday 9th of August 2026.

Tasmania is experiencing a housing crisis. From 2016 to 2021 the rate of homelessness in Tasmania increased by 45%.

Get Involved

Events will be held right across Tasmania throughout Homelessness Week. Information will be added as events are announced, but you can stay up to date with what’s happening in Homelessness Week (and the housing and homelessness sector) by subscribing to Shelter Tas’ eNews, or reading Shelter Tas’ media release for Homelessness Week.

Make sure you lend your support to the Everybody’s Home Campaign petition this Homelessness Week, calling on Treasurer Jim Chalmers to invest in social housing and an increase in Commonwealth Rent Assistance. Go to the Everybody’s Home website or view the listing in the events calendar below.

Host An Event

Hosting an event during Homelessness Week is a great way to raise awareness and connections within your community. You can also use it to build political influence to achieve change – for example by visiting your local MP or inviting them to attend your event.
