Housing affordability is reaching critical levels in Tasmania, particularly for rental housing. Australia does not have a plan to address our growing housing and homelessness crisis. Shelter Tas and our State and National partners urgently call for this year’s Federal Budget to:
- Quarantine funding for social housing and homelessness services; and
- Take the first steps towards framing a long term national housing plan.
Two major funding agreements worth $32m each year for Tasmania’s housing and homelessness services are at stake. This money funds public housing, crisis accommodation, homelessness and family violence services, home ownership schemes and as well as support for thousands of people to access and maintain private rental housing.
